The education proces

Doctoral students learn about scientific research methodology and advanced tools for planning and implementing research and developing results as part of their education. The valuable skill of a scientist is communicating in the scientific community and with the economic environment. That is why doctoral students at the PBS Doctoral School acquire the skills of writing, publishing and presenting scientific papers. While developing within a specific scientific discipline, we ensure that doctoral students also have extensive scientific knowledge. Therefore, during lectures conducted by the best specialists in their fields, Ph.D. students will learn about contemporary development trends in various areas of science and technology. Conducting scientific research is expensive, so during practical classes, doctoral students gain skills in raising funds for research from state, private and civic sources. As future academic teachers, doctoral students also acquire pedagogical competences. As future collaborators with the economic environment, Ph.D. students learn how to transfer scientific knowledge to it.

Most classes are conducted jointly for all disciplines. Still, selected courses, due to their specificity, are carried out separately for technical disciplines and separately for natural sciences.

Implementing the entire educational program of the PBS Doctoral School guarantees the achievement of learning outcomes at the 8th level of the Polish Qualifications Framework. It is a prerequisite for obtaining a doctoral degree.

The Doctoral School calendar provides for four years of education. Within the first three months of education, the Scientific Council of the Discipline, in which the dissertation is carried out, appoints a supervisor or supervisors and possibly an assistant supervisor for the doctoral student. Supervisors directly manage the scientific development of the doctoral student. The condition for passing the first year of education is the doctoral student’s development of an Individual Research Plan. This plan is a detailed road map for implementing scientific research and other projects, leading to obtaining a doctoral degree. After the second year, there is a mid-term assessment of progress in implementing the Individual Research Plan. Further education at the Doctoral School depends on the results of the assessment. Consistent implementation of the Individual Research Plan and progress in education should ensure obtaining a doctoral degree within 4 years.
