Official opening of the new research laboratory at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
01 December 2023

On November 30, 2023, we officially opened the functional subsystems research laboratory for the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, unique in Poland and Europe.

The laboratory enables testing of large braking systems with actual dimensions used in railways, on wheels of rail vehicles with a diameter of up to 960 mm. The station is powered by a powerful engine with a rated power of up to 450 kW, generating a torque of 9,000 Nm with the possibility of smooth speed regulation. In a special test chamber, various environmental conditions for the tested systems can be simulated.

The laboratory is equipped with the latest measurement solutions, including a certified torque meter with dynamic parameter reading, three-axis bearing vibration measurement sensors, temperature measurement sensors and a set of cameras and directional speakers enabling real-time observation of the test.

The laboratory was established in a specially built dyno hall. The total value of the investment was approximately 8 million zlotys. The investment was carried out as part of the project "Laboratories of technical and exact sciences dedicated to the development of research potential in the field of innovative solutions and technologies of key importance for the economy of the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship" financed by the European Union.

The „Hamownia” building is located on PBS campus behind the "H" building.
