The Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology has a Faculty of Medicine. The official opening of the new unit in the University's structure took place on December 1, 2023.
The new 9th Faculty of the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology in Bydgoszcz will initially consist of: the Department of Basic Research and the Department of Clinical Medicine. 23 doctors have already started working at the Faculty. The number of staff will be gradually increased as education develops. Prof. Małgorzata Tafil-Klawe, the Dean of the Faculty, will lead the work of the Faculty.
- I am honoured to be involved in the creation of a new faculty, which is so important given the current situation of medicine in Poland. At the same time, I am aware that this is a great challenge. I look forward to working with the entire academic community. We want to train doctors at a high European level - says Prof. Małgorzata Tafil-Klawe.
The position of Vice-Dean for Education and Student Affairs will be held by PhD Anna Kloska. PhD Katarzyna Sierakowska, Chair of the Scientific Council, will be responsible for the development of the medical discipline. During the inauguration ceremony the Faculty Council was presented. Professor Marek Harat, the first doctor to cooperate with the University, received a commemorative decree on the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine.
- I would like to thank everyone involved in the creation of medicine at our University. Together with the medical staff and PBS employees, we have developed a study programme. We have secured clinical facilities related to various fields of medicine, ensuring wide access to medical infrastructure, modern equipment and research facilities, as well as diverse patient groups. Students of the Faculty of Medicine will gain knowledge and practice in seven Bydgoszcz and regional hospitals. In addition, thanks to the decision of the Bydgoszcz authorities, in the coming months we will have our own hospital within the university structures. We will build a modern morgue and a medical simulation centre - says Prof. Marek Adamski, Rector of the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology.
In October 2024, medical students will begin their first year at the PBS Faculty of Medicine.
