Inauguration marked by cybersecurity
01 October 2025

The Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology is focusing on development in the areas of new technologies, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. This was the main message from the inauguration of the 2025/2026 academic year.

NEW EQUIPMENT AND LABORATORIES

The inauguration ceremony was preceded by the opening of the thoroughly modernized Faculty of Telecommunications, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering. New workshops, classrooms, and laboratories equipped with modern equipment, including Network Security, 6G Mobile Telephony, Wireless Network Security, and Computer Forensics, were built for PLN 8 million. The university also purchased modern servers for analyzing large amounts of data and performing complex calculations in record time.

We consistently invest in our staff, infrastructure, and equipment. We are strengthening our position not only as a regional leader, but also as an important center for the development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in the country. We have an excellent team of specialists. Among them, there are some of the most influential researchers in the world. Our scientists' publications are the most frequently cited works in the field of AI among Polish scientific institutions, says Prof. Marek Adamski, Rector of the Bydgoszcz University of Technology.

GREAT INTEREST IN CYBERSECURITY AMONG STUDENTS

The modern infrastructure will be used by students of cybersecurity and ICT, among others. This is one of three new fields of study, alongside nursing and law, being launched in the new academic year.

Cybersecurity was enormously popular during the recruitment phase, hence the decision to significantly increase the number of vacancies. We have prepared the curriculum in cooperation with industry experts from both private and public sectors, including the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime and ATOS, says Prof. Marek Adamski, Rector of the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology.

The topic of cybersecurity was also the subject of the inaugural lecture given by Dr. Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs.

Poland is currently the most attacked country in the European Union in terms of digital space. We need cyber defense specialists to have water in our taps, electricity in our sockets, and to withdraw money from ATMs. The state is like an organism whose nervous system is cyberspace. Its disruption blocks the functioning of other organs and muscles, said Dr. Krzysztof Gawkowski.

MORE MULTI-MILLION INVESTMENTS AT PBS

In his inaugural speech, the Rector of the University of Science and Technology also announced further investments to strengthen the engineering and natural science traditions of the university. Construction of the Plant Breeding and Cultivation Center will begin soon. Modern greenhouses and a scientific and teaching base for the Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology will be built for over PLN 10 million. The construction of the Poultry Farming Center for the Faculty of Animal Breeding and Biology will cost approximately PLN 18 million. Large purchases of equipment are also planned for the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Environmental Engineering.

JUBILEE YEAR

The beginning of the academic year will also be a time of celebration. The university will mark its 75th anniversary. The main festivities will take place in June next year. However, the coming months will feature many events related to the 75th anniversary celebrations.

I am convinced that the anniversary will also be an opportunity for reflection and for drawing up ambitious plans for the future. All the more so as we are completing our current 5-year strategy. Work is underway on the next one, which we will begin implementing in a few months, says Prof. Marek Adamski.

During the ceremony, first-year students traditionally took their oaths, and PBS employees received medals and awards from the Prime Minister and the Rector.
