The multi-specialist City Hospital has been transferred to the Bydgoszcz University Science of Technology. Students of the Medical Faculty will gain knowledge and experience there.
The agreement on changing the entity creating the hospital was signed on November 8, 2024. Bydgoszcz councilors expressed their consent to transfer the facility to the university.
- Signing today's document also required the consent of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. This project has no political connotations. Everyone worked on it, because it is a common good - says Michał Sztybel, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivode.
- This is a sentimental moment for me. I was born in this hospital, my children were born. We are transferring the facility as a well-placed gift, supporting the education of medical students at the Bydgoszcz University Science of Technology - says Rafał Bruski, Mayor of Bydgoszcz.
In accordance with the regulations, a new hospital statute will be adopted in the near future. The facility will change its name to the Dr. E. Warmiński Clinical Hospital of the Bydgoszcz University of Technology.
- This is a historic moment for our university and our city. I would like to thank the authorities of Bydgoszcz for their support in creating medicine at the University of Technology. We want the Clinical Hospital to serve the residents of the city as best as possible, while also being a place for future medics to gain knowledge and experience. Raising the status of the facility from a district hospital to a clinical hospital creates an opportunity to develop infrastructure and develop medical staff. We will actively seek funds for this purpose - says Prof. Marek Adamski, Rector of the Bydgoszcz University Science of Technology.
In October 2024, a modernized by the Bydgoszcz University Science of Technology morgue of correct anatomy was opened on the hospital premises. The facility has been equipped with modern equipment, and thanks to the launched conscious donation program, the morgue already contains appropriate formalin preparations. The clinical base for educating doctors at the Medical Faculty of the Bydgoszcz University Science of Technology is also provided by other hospitals in the city and region, including the 10th Military Clinical Hospital, the MSWiA Hospital in Bydgoszcz and the Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz.
The university is planning further investments related to infrastructure for medical education, including the construction of a modern simulation center and an expanded mortuary. For this purpose, PBS obtained nearly 70 million PLN. The university will allocate another 10 million PLN for the development of medical education, for which it successfully applied to the National Center for Research and Development.
The Faculty of Medicine of the Bydgoszcz University Science of Technology was established in December 2023. In October this year, for the first time in the history of the university, a 60-person group of students from among 847 candidates registered in the recruitment process began education in the medical field.
