Works on medical studies at PBS are coming to an end

Works related to the preparation by the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology of an application to start studies in the field of medicine are coming to an end. The teaching staff will consist of over 140 academic teachers, including 110 medics. The clinical base will be of over a dozen hospitals and medical facilities.
On July 14, 2023, the Senate of the PBŚ adopted resolutions enabling the submission of an application to the Ministry of Education and Science to start studies in the field of medicine. More than 1,000 pages of documentation including characteristics and program of studies, description of the conditions and method of providing education, and a list of lecturers. The teaching staff will consist of 147 academic teachers, including 110 medics. Among them are 8 professors, 12 habilitated doctors, 91 doctors and 36 medical doctors.
Over the past 20 weeks, the university has also been working on obtaining funds, developing a concept for the construction of a dissecting room and a medical simulation center, and securing a clinical base for future students of the Medical Faculty of PBŚ.
- I would like to thank the whole team working so intensively on launching education in the medical field, led by the vice-rector for development and the vice-rector for education and student affairs. I would like to emphasize that when creating the Faculty of Medicine, we rely primarily on experienced medical staff, which is confirmed by such names of professors as Harat, Araszkiewicz or Pawlak-Osińska. We also focus on good clinical facilities related to various fields of medicine, guaranteeing broad access to medical infrastructure, modern equipment and research apparatus as well as diverse groups of patients - says prof. Marek Adamski, Rector of the Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology.

Ultimately, in accordance with the resolution of intent of the City Council of Bydgoszcz, the University will be handed over to the Multidisciplinary City Hospital. Our University also concluded cooperation agreements with 11 hospitals and medical facilities. Students will study and practice at the Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Bydgoszcz, the 10th Military Clinical Hospital with a Polyclinic, the Provincial Hospital for Nervous and Mental Patients in Świecie, the Oncology Center in Bydgoszcz and the Regional Specialist Hospital in Grudziądz. The list of facilities also includes: Nowy Szpital in Świecie, Eskulap Hospital in Osielsko and Bajka, Leśna, IKAR and Vitamed clinics in Bydgoszcz.

- The list is not closed yet. We are on the eve of signing an appropriate agreement with the Provincial Observation and Infectious Hospital in Bydgoszcz. We will submit the accreditation application for starting studies in the field of medicine at the turn of July and August 2023 - says Assoc. Prof. Szymon Różański, vice-rector for development.

In December 2023, the Bydgoszcz University of  Science and Technology plans to establish the Faculty of Medicine within the structures of the university. According to the assumptions, education in the medical field is to start in October 2024. The group of first-year students will consist of 60 people.
